Hello LED Lighters!

The LED Light wishes all of you a very Healthy and Prosperous 2002!

We are hopeful that you have started this great new year on the right foot, and that the devastation and impact of September 11, 2001, has been put behind you but not forgotten.  As history has shown, America and we, the Americans have the strength and ability to move the United States of America towards a greater era of national unity and …..

There are a few areas of technical improvements that we will touch upon in this newsletter, as well as the usual “New Products”.  First, the Nichia LEDs have been improved with regards to millicandela output while maintaining the same view angle degrees.  As an example, the T1 ¾-20W is now rated at 6400mcd versus 5600mcd, a substantial increase. The tiny T1-25W now offers 3200mcd versus the 2800mcd of 5 months ago.  The popular T1 ¾-50W is now rated at 1800mcd versus 1560mcd.

Nichia’s blue and green LEDs have been upgraded to offer 11,600mcd for the green versus 10,000mcd. Likewise, the blue has increased to 3460mcd, as opposed to 3000mcd.  As with the whites, the view angle degrees are unchanged, as is the 20mA they are rated at.  Voltage is still rated at 3.6v to 4.0v, although we all know many are run at 4.5 or higher in many applications.

We have yet to offer any product utilizing Nichia’s smd chip type LEDs but hope to have them applied to strip or flexible circuit boards for use in backlighting and similar applications very soon. These chip LEDs will probably not be sold in discrete/loose form as the cost is the same as through-the-hole LEDs and the output is primarily aimed at low level, close up lighting for LCD panels, signage, etc. We may apply them to other uses such as book lights and other smaller direct lighting applications.

We have had frequent requests for information on the Lumiled Luxeon Star LED in loose form or as the light source of a manufactured product.  To date, we have not had any complete product to offer nor the Luxeon Star itself for you to experiment with.  One of the reasons is that they are still in experimental stages and production is quite low. The cost is high as expected for a new and very powerful light source (180 Candela for the white), and has yet to pass real-time application success to the satisfaction of the manufacturer.  When these are ready for marketing, we will stock them in standard colors:  blue, white, yellow, green, and red. There will be a learning curve on how to apply these expensive LEDs, but the output they generate will be well worth the cost and effort.

As in the past, we have stockpiled product returns for various reasons from customers.  The lot is smaller as manufacturers strive to improve their products. Still, many items are returned due to “wrong stuff”, “not what I wanted or expected”, “do you have another color?”, it’s too small and not bright enough”, etc. Many are returned due to not following operating instructions and returned to us as ‘defective’…J. Check out the Close Out page at:

the next time you browse through the website. In particular, we have an OEM return that was not built to their satisfaction. This is a special made DIY-6 using the 50 degree white LED on a rectangular circuit board instead of our usual square. Price? Just $26.00 each. ½” x 1 3/8”L x 5/8” T; 12vdc; 60mA.

For New Products, we now have the very bright, compact and tough INOVA X5, 5 LED in black aluminum or stainless steel Titanium colored (smoke) bodies. The X5 is available with white or blue LEDs. These beauties are almost as bright as any 7 LED flashlight.

Next, we have the Versalux 10 LED Utility Light Module. The 10 LEDs are controlled through Demand Pulse Technology TM, an adjustable regulated power circuitry allowing voltage range applications from 2.2 to 13.8vdc. Where do you use the Versalux? Anywhere and in any manner you can come up with; light boxes, handheld lights, in modified flashlights, auto on/off light sources, in your car, in your fishing tackle box, on your CB station, and many more applications. If you tinker a lot, you have to try one of these!

Due to heavy demand, we have brought back the Lightwave Pocketbrights in white. These are the much improved models that have great reliability, a regulated voltage output for long lasting run times and still with a very bright beam!  The Lightwave Illuminator is also back and even better.  This 4 LED headlamp produces an evenly dispersed light pattern, great for use as a hands-free work light.  The improved Illuminator now has a better battery compartment lid that will remain locked.

As a reminder, the Expedition 1900 Aluminum Limited Edition 1900 is now in stock! We are recording the serial numbers for a drawing to be held in October or November for a special gift. We will have two winners, a 1st prize worth $25.00 towards any purchase, and a 2nd prize will be worth $15.00 towards any purchase. Keep a copy of your Expedition 1900 Aluminum Limited Edition Invoice!

Bargain hunters! Beside the returns and closeouts, remember that we always have a product or two on SALE! This month into mid March, we will have all the eternaLights (including the X-Rays), the Infinity, the 0-4 keychain lights, and the FrontaLED Headlamps at great sale prices. That’s it for this month folks.
