LED Flashlight Bulb Facts

ORDER YOUR PR and PEZ BULBs at the bottom of this page!

For the handiest, most used lighting 'TOOL' ever devised, the FLASHLIGHT has not had much of an improvement in light quality, bulb durability, and battery life. That is until now!

In the past 2 years, a White LED replacement bulb for PR type flashlights has emerged to give flashlight users the best of lighting, quality of light and long-term economy. Light Emitting Diodes have changed how light is produced, how bright, clear and unglaring White light can be. The LED Light presents some facts about these LED flashlight replacement bulbs so you may better understand what you are about to receive upon purchase of theLED flashlight bulb.

The LED replacement bulbs we sell can be employed in any ordinary PR type flashlight or lighting device having the same size (9mm or 11/32" diameter) and type of bulb base/socket.

The PR Bulb has a flange base designed to drop into most standard flashlights, headlamps or lanterns that use 3 cells/batteries (Total of 4.5v) of any type including rechargeables. These bulbs will NOT work with 2 cell/battery flashlights

The PEZ Bulb has a screw base, designed for "petzl" type headlamps, and others with screw base sockets. These will also work with lanterns that are powered by no more than 4.5v.

FACTS

An LED bulb will be as bright or brighter than a Krytpon or halogen, but it will NOT project the light beam as far, or as wide. It's strenghts are:

LED bulbs emit a clear White light. The light remains as bright as with fresh batteries but diminishes in volume/ouput as the battery drains down.

LED bulbs are virtually impervious to heat, cold, shock and vibrations. Drop it, bang it around, forget it for months or years and it will still work!

An LED bulb does not heat up or have a glass encloure that can explode, so are inherently NON-incendive!

LED bulbs last 100,000+ continuous hours when used at the rated voltage. Light volume/ouput gradually diminishes allowing time to replace the bulb, if it ever comes to that.

LED bulbs emit maximum brightness at constant ON mode for 5 times or more hours longer than incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs give you bright light until the battery dies.

Supposedly "dead" batteries used with incandescent bulbs or other battery powered products, will power up an LED Bulb!

LED bulbs provide a ten-fold increased measure of safety and security for public safety personnel, emergency personnel, private security personnel.

You WILL have light when you need it the most! An LED bulb will never go out on you without warning!

An LED bulb will NOT allow adjustable light beam focusing the way you are used to as it is a generic replacement, NOT a Krypton or Halogen replacement bulb built for focusing. It will work in focusing PR type flashlights, but will not focus the light as well.

The white LED bulb will produce maximum brightness with 3 each, 1.5V cells/batteries of any size, including three 1.2v rechargeable batteries.

We DO NOT have replacement LED bulbs for any brand of 2 cell/battery focusing flashlights!

Comments and Tips:

Quote: "I never realized how much yellow was in the light coming from the original bulb until I saw the dazzling-white light from yours!

At lower voltage, simulating quite worn batteries, the brightness did diminish, as expected, but there was NO color shift to yellow/orange like a normal bulb. The light output remained a dazzling white." .... Dan D., IL

Quote: "I experimented with the PR bulb replacement in my 3 D cell flashlight. I ran the light for 3 full weeks continuously and after the third week, the light was able to produce enough light to read a newspaper. I also checked the voltage of the 3 batteries, and all 3 were at 1.0V. I thought you might find that info interesting." .. Gary Wolfe, GW Electronics, Jonestown PA

If you have a 4 cell or larger flashlight and want to use an LED Bulb, make a "dummy" battery or two to keep the voltage to 4.5V max. Use metal stock of the same diameter as the batteries to be replaced. Insert the dummy or dummies at the negative end of the battery stack.

NOTE: Bulb life is shortened when voltage used is in excess of what the bulb was designed to operate with ... 4.5V! May cause deterioration, shorten the bulb's life, or immediately burn it out!!!!

A tip for making a light weight Dummy D Cell from Bob Sheldon:
"I made a light weight/short-proof dummy "D" cell from a piece of 1" I.D./ 1 1/4" O.D. PVC tubing. I cut it to length, filled it by gluing a 1" wooden dowel inside (with RTV), drilled it through the center and press-fit a 5/16" Stainless Steel bolt through for a conductor (pre-measured and cut to length). I countersunk one end so the head of the bolt is flush to the wood to make the negative contact, and left about 1/8" sticking out for the positive contact. With this design there is no worry of where the dummy cell goes in the flashlight, it will not short out. When measured with calipers the O.D. of the PVC was slightly larger than an actual "D" cell, but I have yet to see a tube style "D" cell flashlight that it won't fit in, or is even snug in. As far as weight, it's like a feather compared to a regular D cell.
