Burn Time:
In both modes the light level is absolutely constant during 90% of the batteries charge (no yellowing). The light level in Maxi mode then gradually diminishes over another 40 minutes allowing you time to schedule a battery change. It will never go out on you without a warning! The burn times quoted above are for standard alkalines operated at 25 °C.

The installation of Lithium batteries extends the run time in Maxi mode to 12 hours plus, and another 4 plus hours in Eco mode. Therefore, the diminishing light level with Lithiums will be extended for several more hours! This a significant run time improvement that all FrontaLED users should be aware of and benefit from. The cost of the Lithiums is negated by the major increase in run time, especially for those who rely on long burn times during extended use activities. The longer run times result in increased safety and security for the user and his/her companions.

Water Resistance:
The electronic circuit is molded in a special resin. Thus all the parts that are sensitive to humidity are protected and FrontaLED Headlamps can be used without fear in humid environment or under driving rain (not designed for diving).

Operational Temperature:
On the temperature side FrontaLED is guaranteed to work from -30°C to +35°C (-22°F to 95°F). With the use of Lithium batteries, the temperature tolerance is increased to -40°C to +60°C, or -40°F to 145°F. This increased tolerance matches the LED's ability to operate reliably within the same temperature range. The increased temperature range allows the FrontaLED to be used in extreme weather better than other types of headlamps. This is another feature that increases the safety and security feature of the FrontaLED Headlamps.

Switch Mechanism:
The switch is very easy to operate, even wearing big mittens! Just tilt the blue resin block. A magnet is attached to the black support and a switch sensitive to magnetic field is molded in the blue resin with the rest of the electronics. When the switch is close to the magnet, the lamp switches off. When it moves away, it switches on. Everything resides in the distance between the two components. The same switch is used to change the lighting mode. When the lamp is switched off and immediately on again (within half a second), the lighting mode changes (-ECO-MAXI-ECO- ...) If the lamp is switched on after a longer time, FrontaLED will stay in the same mode. The transport lock is simple and clever. Just put the end of the small rope attached to the support in both the support hole and the blue block holes. The lamp can not be accidentally switched on. By the same token, the transport lock can also be used to prevent the headlamp from being accidentally shut off. Simply insert the lock into the support once the light has been turned on to the desired level. This is another safety and security feature that makes the FrontaLED Headlamps the prime headlamp for the adventurer, the caver, and others who rely on a well built, well designed headlamp.

FrontaLED Alpinist

The FrontaLED Alpinist is especially well suited for cold weather mountaineering because it allows to keep the batteries warm under one's clothes. Carrying the batteries in a pocket instead of on the head is very comfortable because of the reduced weight on the head. The extremely powerful and even beam of light is very agreeable to walk in the dark. The "ECO" mode allows you to conserve battery power. A loop is sewn to the battery pack to allow flexibility in carrying alternatives.
