Bulk LEDs or Loose LEDs for OEM or DIY use

3mm LED lights and 5mm LED lights in bulk have been a staple here at TheLEDLight.com for a number of years. Small, easy to work with, and not as sensitive to thermal/heat-sinking considerations as are the newer, higher powered LEDs, these loose LEDs are still a favorite. They offer low power consumption and high efficiency. The water clear epoxy resin package provides ruggedness.

• Our OEM customers find the 3 and 5mm LED lights suitable for producing microscope ring lights, electronic displays and optical indicator lights.
• Artists frequently need a very small but bright light in this size to integrate into paintings and prints accented by tiny lights or to light an object from within.
• Model railroad enthusiasts use the 3 and 5mm LED lights as train headlights or in yard decor such as mini street lamps and to light the interior of buildings.

We offer packages of loose LEDs as small as six pieces so you can try before you buy bulk LEDs. Loose LEDs are available in white, warm white, red, blue, green, amber and two kinds of RGB color changing loose LEDs. A 395 nm UV LED is also in stock. A basic wavelength chart will give you an idea of what the light output will look like for each nanometer range.

A word about bins: When LEDs are produced, they are sorted into bins. We are not going to get into a detailed discussion here. Let us just advise you that if you need a large quantity, and expect uniform color consistency and power requirements, it is best to purchase from the same bin. In other words, if you were to purchase a bag of 6 loose LEDs from us today, and then require 50,000 more of the same 30 days from now, it may be difficult if not impossible to match your new order exactly with that which you sampled. LED manufacturers specs are subject to change. So if considering a large purchase, please check with us in advance as to stock on hand from the same lot.

 

Hobbyists, if you've been wanting to experiment with 3 and 5 mm LEDs, we have them. One of the easiest ways to power up 5mm LEDs is with a device called a Power Puck. Armed with the data you will find on the spec sheet for each LED, you can also easily calculate which resistor to use to operate your LEDs at 12VDC with an AC-DC transformer or a battery pack.
